  • lower magnification, lower resolution
  • coloured image
  • can be used on dead and alive cells
  • easier to use, lightweight
  • uses light rays

how to view specimens with a light microscope

A
  • take a thin slice
  • put a drop of water in the middle of slide
  • carefully put specimen over the slide
  • stain it with iodine
  • use mounted needle to put coverslip
  • place slide on the stage, put stage clips over to secure the slide

  • select lowest powered objective lens
  • use rough focus to move stage up, look down eyepiece and move stage till specimen is in focus
  • use fine focus to adjust till you get a clear image
