What is the definition of microscopic polyangitis?
A
A lower respiratory tract - renal syndrome without the involvement of the upper respiratory tract

What age does microscopic polyangitis present?
A
64 - 72 years

How do patients normally present with microscopic polyangitis?
A
- Pulmonary hemorrhage
- rapidly glomerularnephritis
- Prodrome : fever, malaise, athralgia
- Rash - palpable purpura

A

What are the results from blood tests?
A
- elevated ESR
- elevated CRP
- anaemia

What features of renal impairment may be seen?
A
- high creatinine
- haematuria
- proteinuria

What is the gold standard investigation?
A
- Kidney and lung biopsies
2. Kidneys show focal/segmental glomerularnephritis with epithelial crescent cells

How is microscopic polyangitis different from Churg-Strauss/Wegener’s?
A
No granulomas present
