Microscopic Anatomy of Compact Bone Flashcards
Lacunae
Tiny cavities that hold osteocytes
Lamellae
Concentric circles that lacunae are arranged around.
Haversian Canals
What Lamellae are arranged around.
Osteon (Haversian System)
The entire complex of lacunae in Lamellae around Haversian Canals.
Canaliculi
Radiate outward from central canals to all lacunae. Connects bone cells to nutrient supply through the hard bone matrix.
Volkmann’s Canals
Run into compact bone at right angles to the shaft.
Bone Trabeculae
A hierarchical, spongy, and porous material composed of hard and soft tissue components which can be found at the epiphyses and metaphyses of long bones and in the vertebral bodies
Where is Spongy Bone Found?
Is made in the middle of the long bone.
