Bone Repair Stages Flashcards
1
Q
Formation of Fracture
A
circulation stops - bone cells die - swelling (6-8 hrs) - phagocytes (neutrophils and macrophages) + osteoclasts remove dead tissue (7 weeks)
2
Q
Fibrocartilaginous Callus Formation
A
mass of repair tissue (collagen and cartilage) - fibroclasts from periosteum move and produce fibers - chondroblasts produce fibrocartilage
3
Q
Bony Callus Formation (3-4 mo)
A
fibrocartilage turns into spongy bone
4
Q
Bone Remodeling
A
dead portions are reabsorbed by osteoclasts - compact replaces spongy - continuous cycle
