Light Microscopes
A light microscope works by passing light through a thin slice of an object. Lenses are used to make the object appear bigger.

Connects the ocular lens to the objective lens.
Revolving nosepiece
Used to change the objective magnification.
Objective lens
Magnifies the image (lens closer to the object).
Stage clips
Keeps the specimen securely attached to the stage.
Diaphragm
Used to control the amount of light.
Light source
Light shines from the light source to the stage.
Ocular lens
Magnifies the image (lens closer to your eyes).
Arm
Supportive structure. Connects the eye piece and lenses to the base of the microscope.
stage
Supports the specimen.
Coarse adjustment knob
Moves the stage up and down to bring the specimen into focus.
Fine adjustment knob
Moves the stage slightly to sharpen the image.
Base
Supports the microscope.
