Inflammation of the meninges (membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord)
Meningitis
Causes the most serious form of acute meningitis
Neisseria Meningitis
Arbovirus.
Infects mammals, birds, and mosquitoes.
Transmitted by mosquitoes.
Flu-like symptoms.
West Nile Virus
Neurotropic Viral Infection.
Slow, Prgressive zoonotic disease (found in most warm blooded animals).
Highest mortality rate of any human disease.
Transmission: Bite of infected animal or wound contaminated with infected fluids.
Rabies
Viral spinal cord infection.
Transmitted by feces contaminated food, water, hands.
Common vaccine.
Small children are at risk.
Flaccid Paralysis with residual painful, atrophied limbs.
Poliomyelitis.
Bacterial infection: Clostridium Tetani.
Tetanus Toxin Inhibits Cholinesterase (enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine).
