The work of Edward Jenner and small pox
He took the puss of a cow maid with cow pox and then cut open a boy’s arm and put the puss inside. He then gave the boy small pox. The boy didn’t get small pox because he was vaccinated. VACCination from the Latin word Vacca meaning cow.
How do vaccines work?
The vaccine enters and triggers the immune system to work. White blood cells produce anti-bodies to attack the microbe. The microbe has been made harmless(it cannot reproduce) do it is destroyed quickly. The body now has memory against the microbe. If the microbe attacks again the memory cells will reproduce the anti-bodies to attack it quickly.
Difference between antiseptics and disinfectants
Disinfectants kill the microbe, antiseptics stop the microbes from growing.
