Q

Describe the process of oogenesis

A

As a fetus, oogonia undergo mitosis
Meiosis begins, but not completed- primary oocytes
Meiosis continues in puberty (one a month becomes secondary oocyte) and is ovulated
If fertilized, meiosis II is completed

Q

What is a primary follicle?

A

Primary oocyte w/ more granulosa cells (undergoing hyperplasia b/c fsh). Formation of zona pellucida, theca externa and theca interna

3
Q

What does the zona pellucida do?

A

Separates oocyte from surrounding follicular cells. Sperm binding, prevents fertilization by multiple sperm, protects early embryo

15
Q

Where in Fallopian tubes do you have most mucosal folds?

A

Distally where muscle is thinnest

16
Q

What are the layers of the Fallopian tubes?

A

Lamina propria, muscularis, serosa

17
Q

What does the lamina propria have?

A

Ciliates columnar cells help move egg from ovary to uterus

18
Q

What does muscularis layer do?

A

Helps sperm get from uterus to ovary

19
Q

What is the serosa layer?

A

Visceral peritoneum

20
Q

What does corpus luteum do?

A

Secretes estrogen and progesterone. Allows embryo to implant and develop in early preg. If not pregnant, degenerates after 14 days to form corpus albicans
