Sinusitis - clinical bacterial vs viral
Viral - lasts less that 10 days
Bacterial - nasal discharge, cough, high fever
Otitis media - clinically ( diagnosis)
complication
ear pain, tympanic membrane erythema, hearing loss, fluid in middle ear
mastoiditis - necrosis of mastoid bone
Otitis externa
acute localised vs acute diffuse vs nectrotising
acute localised - furuncle with hair follicle
staph aureus most likely
Acute diffuse - swimmers ear, pseudemonas aerignosa
Necrotising externa - severe pain, could spread to skull\
P. aerignosa
pertussis
catarrhal stage
paroxymal stage
catarrnal stage =
signs of URTI,low grade fever, 1-2 weeks
Paroxymal stage = fits of coughing, post tussive vomiting

LABS - nasopharynx swabs - dacron or reyon
- PCR
- serology
Epiglottitis
