worsening gas exchange (requires 02)
Klebsiella Pneumoniae - signs
Abrupt onset w. fevers and rigors
Blood stained, mucoid sputum
Produces necrotic cavities in lobes
Pseudomonas Aerignosa - signs and labs
Often ventilator acquired
Bilateral abscess formation, necrosis
LABS - grape like odor from sputum, aspirates and B. culture
Staph Aureus - signs and labs
Fever, productive cough, neutropenia
CXR with multilobar involvement
LABs = cat and coag positive
Atypical pneumonia
Mycoplasma pneumoniae
Chlamydia pneumoniae
Chlamydia psittaci
Legionella
Mycoplasma - symptoms, LABs
fever, sore throat, headache cough (non productive)
CXR usually unilateral
skin - urticaria, cardiac, neurological
LABS - nose and throat swabs - PCR
Serology - IgM
Chlamydiaceae - clinical and labs
asymptomatic, pharyngitis
LABs - nose and throat swabs for PCR
Chlamydia Psittaci
Clinical, labs
Clinically - fever, headache, severe cough, arthralgia
LABs - nose and throat swabs - PCR, serology
