What are the symptoms of an MI?
Severe crushing central chest pain
Radiating to jaw and arms, especially the left
Similar to angina but more severe, prolonged and not relieved by GTN
Associated with sweating nausea and often vomiting
What ECG changes occur in a STEMI?
ST elevation
T wave inversion
Q waves
What leads show ST elevation in an inferior MI?
II, III, AVF
What leads show ST elevation in an anterior MI?
V1-6
What leads show ST elevation in an anterolateral MI?
I, AvL, V1-V6
What leads show ST elevation in an anteroseptal MI?
V1-V4
What enzyme is a marker for an MI?
creatinine kinase
What protein is a marker for an MI?
troponin T
When should a patient be thrombolysed?
If PCI not available within 90 minutes.
When should reperfusion be carried out (PCI or thrombolysis)?
More than 20 minutes less than 12 hours.
Is VF a complication of an MI?
Yes
What structural complications are there of an MI?
Cardiac rupture Ventricular septal defect Mitral regurgitation aneurysm emboli Inflammation Acute pericarditis Dressler's syndrome
What are the functional complications of an MI?
Acute ventricular failure
Chronic cardiac failure
Cardiogenic shock
