The MHCC is responsible to the CO for the following: (6)
- Ensuring that the training and operational readiness state of the crew are adequate to meet the assigned mission requirements;
- Crew preparation and planning the mission;
- Approving the tactics to be employed in the assigned mission;
- The training and advancement of the crew as required;
- Ensuring the crew’s actions comply with orders and regulations and are consistent with current doctrine; and
- Effective completion of the assigned mission

The VMC weather limits for over water flight outside airspace controlled by civilian or military authority are 300’ ceiling and 2nm flight visibility provided that the following conditions are met: (3)
- Helo has a serviceable radar, manned by a qualified operator throughout flight;
- All aircraft in area monitor common freq., and ensure mutual separation; and
- AC is an MHC

What shall the Flight Authorization Officer ensure? (4)
- That the flight or mission is in the direct interest of DND business and is authorized only to: National Interests, Ops, Trg, Maint Tests, Other official missions, Save Lives, Stats (NOT MOSS);
- A flight is authorized in accordance with applicable orders and regulations;
- The aircraft crew are qualified and competent to accomplish the assigned duty; and
- The aircraft crew are properly briefed and understand the assigned duty

What is the maximum flight crew duty day of a sea king crew member? (1)
- The number of duty hours shall not exceed 42 hours in a rolling consecutive three day period;
- within the constraint of the above, a duty day shall not exceed 16 hours
In order for an aerodrome to qualify as a take off alternate, what criteria must be satisfied? (2)
- Wx at departure must be >= 1/4sm/ 1200RVR, or 1/8 SM/ 600RVR with runway centreline lighting at departure aerodrome;

When primary SAR standby, can the designated SAR aircraft be inserted into the flying schedule? If yes, are there any restrictions (2)
- The primary SAR aircraft may be flown locally (taking into account sufficient aircraft hours will remain to conduct SAR mission), but shall remain within a 15-minute recall range;
- If recalled, the aircrew flying the designated SAR aircraft will remain in the aircraft during the hot refuelling until relieved by the SAR crew (if required); and
- If not flown, aircraft shall be “B” checked and ready to launch.

- An emergency exists, for the PROTECTION of lives;
- Comd 1CAD deems it cecessary to accomplish an OPERATIONAL/training requirement;
- WRITTEN approval from Comd 1CAD to the Wing concerned so authorizes;
- Conform to NATO/host country requirements during Ops outside Canada (need approval); and
- Essential to the DEFENCE of Canada and time does not permit clearance from Comd 1CAD

Immersion suits shall be worn by all aircraft occupants on over water flights when the sea temp is 13 deg celcius or below, or when the sum of air and water is less than 31 deg celcius.
CO or Det Comd may waive the requirement to wear immersion suits when the air temp is 23 deg celcius or above and the water temp is between 10-13 deg celcius inclusive, provided that:
1) A/C must be within 30 mins rescue capability of a ship or helicopter with a serviceable rescue hoist; and
2) Radio checks with a Flight Guard are conducted every 15 mins.

- Within 25 nm of departure aerodrome;

- Minimum airspeed of 45kts when over unprepared surfaces
