HCA Flashcards
What is the control area of a Cdn Warship
3500’ & 1/2nm
Control area of an MCDV
None, but 1/2nm Ideal
Control area of an aircraft carrier (CV)
5000’ & 10nm
describe the “delta”
visual holding pattern oriented into the wind at 200’ right hand turns
describe IMC holding pattern
inbound to the ship, from 2-4nm, right hand orbit
What are the limits of the Final approach course
Within +/-30 degrees of the ships heading
what are the most commonly used FAC’s
R/G 165 (15 degrees off) and 180 (straight in)
Define the Final approach area. What restriction must be observed within it?
Area extending 2.5nm from the ship bounded 20 degrees either side of Final approach course. This area must be clear of obstacles prior to & during approach
Where is the FAF during a HCA?
Position normally situated on the FAC at 2nm from the ship. Commence descent to the ship
approaching ship for an HCA, TACCO calls the ship…
“VAN this is Stinger 43, request clearance for HCA”
“STGR43 de VAN, cleared for HCA to VAN, FC 120-12, RW Red10-16, Altimeter: 29.89”
“STGR43, altimeter 29.89”
“STGR43 de VAN, you are clear to close, RADHAZ safe port
What does the TACCO brief for the HCA?
Flying course, True/Relative wind, Approach radial, missed approach procedure
State the requirements of a missed approach procedure during an HCA
brief must be given NLT 3nm back
heading must be a minimum of 30 degrees off the FC
must be into the wind
Missed must be called if no visual at 1/2nm
climb back to 200’
