MGD1+2 Flashcards
What does solubility depend on?
The ability to from hydrogen bonds
What are amphipathic molecules?
Molecules that have both non-polar and polar regions.
What are micelles?
Clusters of hydrophobic regions together so that they exclude water.
How are amino acids found in the body?
ionised and as L isomers
What is a pKa value?
How likely a group is to release its proton
What does a high pKa value mean?
the amino acid will act as a base
accept protons
be positively charged
What does a low pKa mean?
amino acids act as acids
release protons
negatively charged
What is the pI of basic proteins?
pI>7
What is a basal body?
An organelle formed from a centriole and a short, cylindrical array of microtubules. Found at the base of eukaryotic cilia.
