Mexico city is the capital of Mexico, towards the south of Mexico. On the continent of north america, part of central and latin america. To the southeast of Mexico city is the active volcano Popocatépetl which has had more than 15 major eruptions since the Spanish arrived in 1519. The location of Mexico city with its high altitude and it being surrounded by mountains keeps the air pollution high. It is on an upland basin, 2240 m above sea level surrounded by a ring of mountains
