A
Pre existing renal disease or impairment
Concurrent use of tetracycline antibiotics
Exceeding the total dose of 6ml in 24 hours

Side Effects
A
Drowsiness Nausea from the smell Low blood pressure (hypotension) Bradycardia Renal toxicity if >6ml administered in 24 hours

Route (self)
A
Via penthrox inhaler
Commences after 8-10 breaths
Lasts 3-5 mins once discontinued
3ml provides 25 mins of analgesia

A
Do not administer in a confined space!

Precautions
A
Patient must hold the inhaler themselves or be directly supervised by a paramedic holding it for them
Pre-eclampsia
Concurrent use with oxytocin may cause hypotension
