Methods of Training Flashcards
Name the 6 Methods of Training.
Circuit Training, Continuous Training, Cross Training, Weight Training, Interval Training, Fartlek Training.
Define INTERVAL TRAINING.
High intensity periods of work followed by defined periods of rest.
Define CONTINUOUS TRAINING.
Training at a steady rate lasting for at least 15-20minutes.
Define CIRCUIT TRAINING.
A circuit of exercises arranged to avoid working the same muscle group consecutively.
This develops muscular and cardiovascular system.
Define CROSS TRAINING.
A combination of training methods, not activities.
Define WEIGHT TRAINING.
Training that uses progressive resistance, either in the form of the actual weight lifted or the amount of repetitions.
Define FARTLEK TRAINING.
Training which combines fast and slow running, and often a variety of terrains and distances.
What sports would benefit from FARTLEK TRAINING and why?
Games sports such as football and hockey, as it includes short bursts of activity such as sprints and jogs.
What type of training would be best suited to a long distance runner and why?
CONTINUOUS as it allows for training to resemble the athlete’s activity.
Which method of training would be used to improve muscular strength?
WEIGHT TRAINING.
Give an example of an athlete that would use CROSS TRAINING.
A sprinter may use WEIGHT TRAINING for power development and INTERVAL TRAINING for speed development.
