The first aim of restorative justice is to rehabilitate offenders. This allows the victim the opportunity to explain the impact of the crime and the offender is able to understand the effects of their actions. This will lead to the offender the chance to learn to take the perspective of others which in turn should reduce reoffending​. The offender is encouraged to take responsibility for their actions and in turn should influence their future actions​. Restorative justice is an active process where the offender is involved and therefore should change their attitude towards crime.
