Metallic Bonding Flashcards
Explain the metallic bonding in terms of the electrostatic force
They are free to move around and there are a lot of strong forces of electrostatic force. These forces of attraction hold the atoms together in a regular structure known as metallic bonding.
Why are most metals solid at room temperature
The electrostatic forces between the metal atoms are three to move around and are very strong with lots of energy this means that the compounds have high boiling and melting points so they are solid at room temperature
Properties for metallic bonding
They are good conductors of heat and electricity as the free electrons carry around electrical currants and thermal energy through the structure
The metals can also be bent hammered or rolled into flat sheets
