non-pharm tx for metabolic syndrome

A

Exercise: 150 min/week, 2-3 days of resistance
Smoking cessation: 5 A’s
Stress management
Sleep: treat sleep apnea if confirmed
Diet: Mediterranean, DASH (sodium limited to 2300 mg/day), low glycemic index, high fibre (30+ g/day)

Weight loss: aim for 5-10% loss of initial weight, ultimate goal BMI <25
