How can you identify “central” vertigo?
Central: Cerebellar dysfunction (difficulty w/ RAM, finger to nose, gait, romberg)
Peripheral: impaired balance but still able to walk

What is veritgo?
Sensation that the room is spinning (objective) or you are spinning (subjective)

What is BPPV?
vertigo induced by postural changes, caused by otoconia

What is the meniere’s triad?
vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus

When to refer?
ENT if no improvement 2-4 weeks

What are contraindications for the epley maneuver?
neck fracture/instability, hx of unstable carotid disease, recent retinal detachment

Pt counselling post Epley maneuvre
sleep with head elevated, do not sleep with affected ear down

how do you perform the epley maneuvre?
first, dix-hallpicke.. sitting to lying with head turned 45 degrees to the affected side… then turn head 90 degrees to the other side… then another 90 degrees so they are on their side, then sit up with chin to chest
