Q

non pharma measures for conjunctivities

A

Bathing the eyelids with tepid water to remove any discharge
• When cleaning the eye, wiping the eye from the bridge of the
nose to the outer corner of the eye with a fresh piece of cotton
wool or gauze
• As eye infections are easily passed to other people, it is advisable
for those with eye infections to avoid sharing towels, facecloths,
etc
• It may be useful to discuss with the patient the possible causes
of acute bacterial conjunctivitis and advise on the condition’s
self-limiting nature (most cases will clear within 1-2 weeks, and
often within 2-5 days without any treatment)
• Use of over the counter lubricant eye drops can also help
reduce any discomfort in the eye(s)
