a disorder that affects mood
what is an example of an AFFECTIVE disorder?
depression
what are the TWO main symptons of DEPRESSION?
- low/depressed mood
- lost of interest/pleasure in most activities
What are the OTHER symptons of DEPRESSION?
- weight/appetite loss/gain#
- insomnia/hypersomnia
- inability to relax
- daily fatigue
- feelings of worthlessness/guilt
- loss of concentration
- recurrent thoughts of death
how long does the symptons of DEPRESSION meant to last for in order to receive a diagnosis?
symptons have to be recurrent for two weeks
what is a PSYCHOTIC disorder?
a disorder that causes a loss of contact with reality
what is an example of a PSYCHOTIC disorder?
schizophrenia
what are the THREE main symptons of SCHIZOPHRENIA?
- delusions (beliefs people may have that aren’t based off
reality) - hallucinations (hearing, seeing, feeling things that don’t
exist) - disorganised speech
What are the OTHER symptons of SCHIZOPHRENIA?
- highly disorganised behaviour
- negative symptons (reduced expression of emotion)
How long does the symptons of SCHIZOPHRENIA last for before receiving a diagnosis?
over a month
What is an ANXIETY disorder?
when the individual experiences excessive/persistent fear
what is an example of an ANXIETY disorder?
specific phobias
what are the FOUR symptons of an ANXIETY disorder?
- phobic stimulus provokes immediate fear and anxiety
- phobic stimulus is deliberately avoided or endured with
strong anxiety - fear and anxiety caused by stimulus is disproportionate to
the actual danger it poses - causes impairment in areas of functioning e.g. social life
how long does the anxiety from the PHOBIA last for?
persistently for up to 6 months
