what are monoamine inhibitors?
A
prevents the breakdown of seretonin, dopamine and noradrenaline

what are tricyclics?
A
prevents seretonin and noradrenaline from being reabsorbed after passing over a synapse, increasing levels

what are selective seretonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI’s)?
A
stops seretonin from being reabsorbed after passing over a synapse

what are noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (NRI’s)?
A
stops noradrenaline from being reabsorbed after passing over a synapse - useful for motivating patients that have been left inactive due to their depression

what is electroconvulsive therapy?
A
- causes a seizure that lasts up to 15-60 seconds
- treatment lasts for 2-3 weeks, 6-12 times
- given under anaesthetic, using succinycholine to paralyse
muscles to prevent broken bones
