How can organic disorders cause psychiatric illness?
They are secondary physical processes. Can be causal eg. brain tumour or precipitating eg. cannabis causing panic attack in vulnerable individual.
What is psychosis?
Altered relationship with reality.
What is anhedonia?
Inability to feel pleasure in normally pleasurable activities.
What is adjustment reaction?
Abnormal and excessive reaction to an identifiable life stressor.
What are the 5 stages of grief in the Kubler-Ross model?
DABDA. Denial Anger Bargaining Depression Acceptance
What is grief?
Feeling, thoughts, behaviours associated with bereavement (any loss event, usually death).
How do SSRIs work?
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors work by blocking the reuptake of serotonin which increases the amount present in the synpase ad magnifies its effects. eg. Citaloram, Fluoextine, Sertraline.
