What is the difference of emotions and moods?
Emotions are more short-lived and more intense. They also have a definitive cause. Moods however are more mild and longer lasting. It is also hard to find the cause for a mood.
What are the six basic emotions?
Sadness, happiness, fear, anger, surprise, disgust
What are the functions of emotions?
Behavioral readiness/motivation, decision making, communication/social cues, making memories
What part of the brain controls emotions?
The amygdala
What five traits to emotionally intelligent people have?
Self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, social skills, empathetic
What are emotions?
Emotions are the subjective interpretation of what an event means to a person
What are the two components of emotion?
Physiological response and cognitive appraisal
What is cognitive appraisal?
How someone feels about an event. This is based off of past experiences.
What are the two parts of the immune system?
Sympathetic and Para-sympathetic
What does the sympathetic immune system do?
Your sympathetic nervous system is best known for its role in responding to dangerous or stressful situations. This is your flight or fight system.
What does the parasympathetic immune system do?
The parasympathetic nervous system controls the body’s ability to relax. It’s sometimes called the “rest and digest” state.
What are the seven steps to manage emotions?
Identify the emotion, appreciate your emotion, analyze your emotion, get confident that you can control your emotions, forgive your emotional triggers, see the bigger picture, and take action.
What is optimism?
The ability to keep a positive outlook on life.
What is resilience?
The ability to recover from traumatic or stressful events.
What is self-esteem?
What you feel about yourself. Self-esteem also changed with life experiences and new understanding.
