Describe this difference from the DSM 2 (1952) & 3 (1968)
DSM 5 doesn’t include any theories about causation, and there are no assumptions about unconscious processes. It was released in 2013.
Earlier DSM were based very much on psychoanalytic theory, and causation
What’s the difference between validity and reliability?
Validity refers to whether the variable intended to by tested is the variable actually being tested. Reliability is a reflection of how many times the results can be replicated
What’s the difference between unstructured and structured psychological interviews?
A structured interview must be carried out by a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist. It is tailored to the client, meaning that the clients response will guide the next question. It has excellent reliability for diagnosis, and validity with the DSM.
An unstructured interview can be carried out by any mental health practitioner, and focuses on building practitioner client relationship.
Both aim to summarise present symptoms leading towards diagnosis.
