Menstruation Flashcards
How do FSH, Oestrogen, and LH and Progesterone all link?
The Pituitary Gland produces FSH, (Maturing the egg) stimulates the Ovaries and produces Oestrogen, (Thickening Uterus lining) which stimulates the Pituitary Gland and produces LH (Ovulation/Releasing egg) and this triggers the hormone Progesterone to prepare the lining once the egg is fertilised,
What is the function of Oestrogen?
Needed for puberty, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, bone strength, etc.
Also prevents more FSH being secreted and repairs uterus lining after menstruation.
What is the function of Progesterone?
Prepares the lining of the Uterus for a fertilised egg to implant and grow.
Works with Oestrogen to prevent secretion of FSH.
What is the Function of FSH?
A hormone which causes eggs in the ovaries to mature.
As well as stimulating the ovaries to make Oestrogen.
What is the Function of LH?
A hormone which triggers the release of an egg (ovulation) from the ovary.
