Meninges of the brain and spinal cord. Flashcards
Cerebro-spinal fluid production and circulation
mechanism of migraine headache
The meninges with artery, veins and nerves
Dura mater
is supplied by trigeminal nerve so it is the onlt part that has pain receptors the rest of the brain feels no pain
The meninges with no vessels and veins
Arachnoid mater
The meninges with artery, vessel and no nerves
Pia mater
The space between the skull and dura mater
Epidural space
the space below the dura mater
Subdural space
The space below the arachoid
Subarachnoid space filled with CSF
The danger triangle of death (on face ) connects what veins
Angular vein ~ Ophthalmic vein ~ Cavernous sinus ( In the where infection stays )
Dura mater blood supply is from
External carotid artery branch -middle meningeal artery
between periosteal dura and skull
blood accumulation between the skull and the dura mater, the thick membrane covering the brain
Epidural hematoma
due to damage to pterion (union of bones known as temple of the head), damage to middle meningeal artery (majorly)
layer of the dura mater that forms dural sinuses or duplications
(falx cerebri, diaphragma sellae, tentorium
cerebelli, falx cerebelli)
internal meningeal layer
2 layers of the dura mater are
outer periosteal layer and internal meningeal layer
paired dural venous sinuses
sup. & inf. petrossal sinus
transverse sinus
sigmoid sinus
cavernous sinus
mnemonic:
unpaired dural venous sinuses
inf & sup saggital sinus
Occipital sinus
Straight sinus
SOS: SAG OUR STROLS
the largest subarachnoid cistern is
cerebellomedullary cistern
receives CSF from the apertures of the 4th ventricle
cistern of the great cerebral veins
quadrigeminal cistern
cisterna ambience is continous with it
