Q

Mediodorsal (dorsomedial) nucleus

it is reciprocally connected to the prefrontal cortex

It has abundant connections with the intralaminar nuclei

A

Input: Amygdala, substantia nigra, temporal neocortex
Funct: expression of affect, emotions and behavior (limbic func)

damage = memory loss (Wernicke-korsakoff syndrome)

Q

centromedial nucleus (largest intralaminar nucleus)

reciprocally connected to the motor cortex (Brodmann’s area 4)

A

Input: globus pallidus
Projects to : striatum (caudate nucleus + putamen) and projects diffusely to the entire neocortex

Q

Pulvinar (largest thalamic nucleus )

It is a lateral thalamic nuclei

reciprocal connections with the association cortex of the occipital, parietal, and posterior temporal lobes.

A

input: lateral & medial geniculate bodies & superioir colliculus
Func: integration of visualm auditory & somesthetic

Damage : Sensory dysphasia
