Meningeal Layers and Spaces Flashcards
List in order.
Calvaria (skull cap)
Epidural space (potential space)
Dura mater (thick)
Infoldings of the dura mater:
- Falx cerebri (separates the cerebral hemispheres)
- Falx cerebelli (separates the cerebellar hemispheres)
- Tentorium cerebelli (separates the cerebrum from the cerebellum, encases the cerebellum)
Subdural space (potential space)
Arachnoid mater (thin membrane on brain, can be lifted)
Subarachnoid space (REAL space, where CSF and blood vessels are)
Pia mater (non-dissectible, touching direct surface of brain)
Pia Mater
Non-dissectible. Touching direct surface of brain.
Arachnoid Mater
Thin membrane on brain. Can be lifted up. Subarachnoid space below.
Subarachnoid space
Below Arachnoid Mater. REAL space. Contains CSF and blood vessels.
Subdural space
Below dura mater. Potential space.
Epidural space
Potential space. In between skull cap (Calvaria) and Dura Mater.
Skull Cap
Calvaria
Dura Mater
Thickest layer. Separated into four pieces (during dissection).
Falx Cerebri
Separates cerebral hemispheres. An infolding of Dura Mater.
Falx Cerebelli
Separates cerebellar hemispheres. An infolding of Dura Mater.
Tentorium Cerebelli
Separates Cerebrum from Cerebellum. Encases Cerebellum (like tent).
