Q

Who proposed the working memory model?

A

Baddeley and Hitch because they felt that the WMM was not just one store but multiple stores

Q

What is the Phonological loop?

A

The phonological loop deals with auditory information and contains the phonological store which holds the words you hear and the articulatory control process which allows for maintenance of acoustic information

Q

What is the Visio- Spatial sketchpad?

A

Used for the planning of spatial tasks, the VSS contains the visual cache which stores visual information and the inner scribe which deals with spatial- relationships and stores the arrangement of objects in the visual field

Q

When did Baddely add the Episodic buffer?

A

In 2000 Baddely added the episodic buffer which is a general store for both visual and acoustic information. The purpose of the episodic buffer is to interrogate information from the other 3 components and send information to the LTM

Q

Evaluation 1: A strength comes from Dual task studies

A
  • Dual task studies
  • Baddley and hitch found that participants were slower in dual task studies that involved both the central executive and articulatory loop, in comparison to a task which just required the articulatory loop
  • This demonstrates the dual task performance effect and shows that the central executive is separate from the articulatory loop.
  • This supports the idea of multiple components in STM and the idea of WMM
