what is the developmental link?

A
  • episodic and semantic memory systems are disrupted in Alzheimer’s disease, form of dementia.
  • both research and personal experiences of people with Alzheimer’s suggest episodic memory is affected first. may be because hippocampus - plays central role in episodic memory - is damaged early during disease.
  • later, patients lose ability to use knowledge in semantic memory. probably because disease now affects the brain areas closely involved in semantic memory - frontal lobes
