Memory (Come back to this one) Flashcards
How many things can we store in memory at once (generally)?
4-5 things.
What is the serial position curve?
The order in the list you saw tends to affect how likely the word is to be recalled.
What is the primacy effect?
The first few words are more likely to be remembered. (They go to your long term memory.)
What is the recency effect?
The last few words on the list tend to be remembered (Due to short term or working memory)
What happens if rehearsal is prevented?
The recency effect (which is where someone remembers the last few items on a list) is eliminated.)
What happens if items on a list are presented slower?
Primacy effect (which allows us to remember things at the first of the list) is improved. Recency isn’t affected.
What is the phonological similarity effect?
Words that sound similar affect recall ability.
What are the different levels of elaborative rehearsal process?
Shallow- “Are these words in the same typeface?”
Medium- “Do these words rhyme?”
Deeper- “Are these words synonymous?”
What are the three components of the Modal Model?
Early analysis- Taking in the information and deciding if it’s relevant.
Primary memory- The working memory storage space.
Long term memory- Unlimited capacity.
