Q

Who are the audience in relation to Isabella and Sophia? How is this implied in the text?

A
  • The audience are the friends to whom Isabella and Sophia are talking to.
  • There is direct address from Isabella to her friend through imperatives such as ‘go stand over there’.
  • The paralinguistic feature in Sophia’s narrative (points out of the train window) also suggests interaction with one person at a given moment in time.
  • Colloquial language used by Isabella such as ‘chill’ implies that this is an informal conversation.
