What is meiosis?

A type of cell division that only occurs when the body forms gametes

What happens after meiosis?
A
The gametes produced with 23 chromosomes join at fertilisation to produce a cell with 46 chromosomes. Then continues division produces an embryo, and the cells differentiate.

What is the process of meiosis?
A
- In the parent cell the chromosomes duplicate and cross over
- 2 daughter cells are produced
- Chromosome pair in daughter cell splits
- 4 gametes are produced creating 4 genetically different haploid cells
