1
Q

Where does meiosis occur and what is it?

Q

What is crossing over and when does it occur?

A

Crossing over occurs during prophase 1
Non sister chromatids in a homologous pair synapse and form a bivalent.
Sections of the sister chromatids intertwine and exchange alleles
Can also be calledchiasma

Q

What occurs in metaphase l?

A

Homologous chromosome pairs mine to the equator
Each chromatic is attached at the centromere to a spindle fibre

Q

What is independent assortment?

A

Random segregation is where The homologous pairs are arranged randomly in pairs along the equator still in their crossed over state.
No pattern when they segregate duringanaphose1

Q

What happens in telophase2?

A

The separated chromosome uncoil and the membrane reforms
This is followed by cytokinesis to give 4 haploid cells
