meiosis Flashcards
what are homologous chromosomes?
the have the same genes but different alleles(variants)
they pair to form bi valents
how many times does meiosis happen
twice
what happens during prophase 1
the nuclear envelope dissolves
the chromosomes condense and super coil
the bivalents cross over
the centrioles go to the equator poles of the cell and start to form spindle fibres
metaphase 1
the crossed over bivalents are attached to the spindle fibres by their centromere
anaphase 1
the chromosomes are pulled apart
the crossed over area are seperated
telophase 1
the cell forms two nuclear envelopes around each set of chromosomes and cell divides by cytokinesis
propahse 2
metaphase,anaphase
telophase all happen again
what is the product?
there are four new haploid nuclei
