Why is RhoGam given?

A

To neutralize the antibodies that may form in an Rh- mother, due to an interaction with an Rh+ baby.

When is RhoGam given?

A

Two times. First time at 26~28 weeks because the woman may have had previous pregnancies with an Rh+ baby, due to miscarriages/ectopic etc. Second time is given after birth

What are some adverse drug reactions of RhoGam?

A

Joint or muscle pain that may affect pt’s ability to perform ADLs and IADLs. Malaise, soreness, fever, reaction to blood.

A

To treat HP pressure. It’s a beta blocker.

A

Hold med if HR <60

Affects BGs so careful around diabetics

Can cause asthmatic pts to have bronchospasms

What is Depo Provera used for and how does it work?

A

Used to prevent pregnancies. It could also be used for endometriosis (happens when the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus.) It thins outer endometrium and prevents ovulation.

What are some contraindications of Depo Provera?

A
  1. Thrombophlebitis 2. Osteoporosis, so calcium must be in diet 3. Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding. 4. Missed abortion or pregnancy.

What are black box warnings of Depo Provera?

A
  1. Make sure pt is not pregnant. 2. Teach pt that this doesn’t protect them from HIV or STDs 3. Use of Depo may rsult in sig loss of bone mineral density. The drug should NOT be used for long term birth control, no more than 2 years. 4. Consult with physical if vision loss occurs.
