Biganide

A

metformin

Wont cause hypoglycemia
Don’t give to renal patient.
Avoid alcohol
Withheld for contrast media or no oral intake before and 48 hours after.

Can cause lactic acidosis (Chills, diarrhea, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, muscle pain, sleepiness, bradycardia, dyspnea, weakness)

Give at night with 2 glasses of water to prevent nausea, skin blanching, and cramps.

Assess apical pulse, and report chest pain
S/E- Hyperthyroidism,
full effects takes weeks
Give with full glass of H20 30-60 minutes before breakfast
