What does the necrotising vasculitis lead to?

S+S:

  • Systemic symptoms
  • What is seen on the skin?
  • There is a range of presentations of vasculitis. Look at vasculitis deck on it’s own!

Aneurysms, bleeds and thrombosis

Fatigue 
Fever 
Weight loss 
Headache 
Myalgia 

Purpura

Steroids + methotrexate

Kawasaki Disease:

When age is it most common?

S+S:

  • What systemic sign do they have?
  • What becomes inflamed near the eye?
  • Rash - type, where does it start and progress to?
  • How is the tongue described?

Kawasaki’s Disease

Management:
Acute
Long term - why?

A

Age 2

Fever

Dry bilateral conjunctivitis

A non-vesicular, desquamating rash which starts at
extremities (inc palms and soles)

Aspirin and IVIG

Risk of Reyes with aspirin use in children. Aspirin not used.

Lifelong aspirin as 25% develop coronary artery aneurysms and are at risk of early MI
