What does Feudal system mean?
This system was a way of dividing up the land in England to give William control across the entire country.
What does Church mean?
Not just a building but an organisation. The Catholic Church was led by the Pope in Rome.
Who was Thomas Becket?
Friend of Henry II. Made Archbishop of Canterbury, the most important role in the Church in England.
Who was the Pope?
Head of the Catholic Church. He expected people to put their faith before their loyalty to their king.
What was the Magna Carta?
A list of rules that a King had to stick to, signed by King John in 1215.
What does Crusade mean?
Wars fought between Christians and Muslims for control of the Holy Land including Jerusalem
What does Heir mean?
The next person due to inherit the throne when the current monarch dies.
What does Hammer Of The Scots mean?
A nickname to show how relentless Edward was in fighting against Scotland.
What was the Wars Of The Roses?
Battles between two powerful houses in England over who should be king.
What does Controversy mean?
Causing disagreement or discussion and different points of view.
What does Monarch mean?
The king or queen who rules a country.

Argued with the church, had Tomas Becket killed, bishops didn’t like him and he was whipped to repent to God.

Forced to sign the Magna Carta, lost most his land in France, increased taxes and fought with barrons.

‘Hammer of the Scots’, attacked Wales, execution of William Wallace and defeated by Scotland.
