Medical Imaging Flashcards
What is the xray view best for evaluating for dislocation of scapular fracture?
Y view of the shoulder
What is a SLAP injury?
A superior labrum anterior posterior tear- visualized with MRI- you can see fluid exiting the glenoid region- results from trauma or overuse
What is a hills-sachs deformity?
an indintation in the head of the humerus that is the result of repetitive dislocations of the shoulder- seen on xray or MRI
what is the sail sign?
seen at the elbow from trauma- the fat pad will be displaced the area just superior to the olecranon fossaq
What is the indication of a sail sign in adults?
usually a radial fracture
what is the indication of sail sign in children under the age of ten?
usually a supracondylar fracture
what are three injuries seen when falling forward on an out stretched arm>
A fx to the scaphoid, colles fx and smith fracture
What is a scaphoid fx and what can it lead to?
a fracture to the scaphoid carpal that can lead to avascular necrosis
What is a colle’s fx?
a fracture of the distal radius that displaces the DISTAL portion posteriorly- gives the appearance of a dinner fork
What is a smith’s fx?
a fracture of the distal radius that displaces the DISTAL portion anteriorly (towards the palm)
what can cause avascular necrosis of the femur?
Medial circumflex femoral a. rupture,
What is seen on MRI with a torn ACL?
there is generally a long black line on the T1 image that will be gone and there will be fluid build up
