What is atherosclerosis and how does it cause disease?
A
High cholesterol levels causing deposits (atheroma) which narrow the blood vessels- causing obstruction or an anuerism. (Abnormal dilation) emobl
This damages heart muscles & can cause:
* Ischaemia- reduced blood supply.
* Infarction- no blood supply.
* Thrombosis- blot clot causing further blockage of vessel
* Embolism. (blood clot that has moved elsewhere- causing MI/ stroke)
