Pacemaker
An electronic device implanted in the chest that delivers short electric pulses via electrodes to regulate the heartbeat.
Pancreas
A gland behind the stomach that secretes digestive enzymes and hormones that regulate glucose levels.
Paralysis
Loss of power of movement of part of the body due to a nerve or muscle disorder.
Parasite
An organism that lives in or on another organism (host) and benefits at the hosts expense.
Parasympathetic nervous system.
One of the two divisions of autonomic nervous system. It maintains and restores energy, for example by slowing the heart rate.
Parathyroid glands
Two pairs of yellowish endocrine glands, located behind the thyroid gland, that help control the level of calcium in the blood.
