Medical Devices Flashcards
What is ECG used for?
An ECG (electrocardiogram) is used to record the electrical activity of the heart. It’s a quick and painless test that helps doctors diagnose various heart conditions, such as arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), heart attacks, and other heart diseases.
Nursing considerations for ECG on patient?
Patient Education and addressing concerns
Preparation and comfortability
Equipment functioning and safety.
Monitoring discomfort and adverse reactions
Documentation of observation and finding or intervention
Ensure safety protocols and potential hazards
Interpretation of results and escalate abnormalities.
What can low T waves indicate in ECG?
Imbalance of low potassium levels in electrolytes
How would you interpret ECG?
Determin HR
assess rhythm
Evaluate Pwave
Measure PR intervals
Analyse QRS complex
Assess ST segment
Examine T wave and QT intervals
What supports electrolytes cardiac failure?
Calcium
Potassium
Magnesium
Reasons for blood transfusion?
Leukemia
Blood loss
Sickle cell disease
Anemia
Shortage of RBCs
Replacing RBCs and improving oxygenation
What are adverse reactions possible in blood transfusion?
Fever
Chills
Rash
Dyspnoea ( breathing difficulty)
COMMENCE EMERGENCY PROTOCOL!!!!
What must you do if adverse reactions occur in blood transfusion?
STOP transfusion!!!!!
Prepare emergency meds
resus trolley
Prepare in case of anaphylaxis
Contact crash team.
What emergency medications are used in stopping blood transfusion?
Antihistamines and adrenaline
