Study of different personal and social environments created by use of different communication technologies. Changes in technology alter the symbolic environment.

A
symbolic environment- socially-constructed, sensory world of meaning
media- all human invented technology
medium- specific form of media (ie books, TV, film)

Why is evaluating the ecology of media difficult to do?
A
Because all environments are inherently intangible and interrelated.
