Intramuscular Injection

Syringe size : 1-5 mL
Needle Gauge : 20-25
Needle Length: 5/8-1 1/2 inch
 Insertion sites: Ventrogluteal, Vastus lateralis or deltoid ( 2mL or less)
Angle of insertion: 90*

Fluid Volume: 2-4mL; amounts over 2mL should be split into two injections

Intradermal Injection

A

Syringe size: Up to 1mL
Needle Gauge: 26-28
Needle Length: 1/2- 5/8 inch
Insertion sites: lightly pigmented areas of the body, must be free of lesions and relatively hairless ( ex: inner forearm, upper back)

Angle of insertion: 5-15*
BEVEL UP- Small Bleb will appear
Volume: <0.5mL

Insulin Syringe

A

Syringe size: 0.3-1mL
Needle Gauge: 25-31
Needle length 3/16- 5/8
Insertion Site: Upper arm, anterior or lateral portion of thigh, buttock and abdomen

Angle of insertion: 45-90*
Method: Pinch an Inch

Volume 0.5-1 mL

Insertion sites: Outer posterior upper arm,abdomen ( from the coastal margin to the iliac crest) anterior thighs, scapular area fo back, ventral or dorsal glute

Method: PINCH AN INCH
Volume 0.5- 1mL
