Med Flashcards
Hypoxia
Hypoxic - occurs when not enough O2 in the air or when decreasing atmospheric pressure prevent diffusion of O2
Hypemic - reduction in bloods O2 carrying capacity
Stagnant - bloods Ow carrying capacity is adequate but circulation is inadequate
Histotoxic - interference with the use of O2 by body tissues
Stages of Hypoxic Hypoxia
Indifferent 0 - 10 - decreased night vision at 4,000 MSL
Compensatory 10 - 15 - drowsiness, poor judgment
Disturbance 15 - 20 impaired flight control
Critical - 20 circulatory and central nervous system failure
Define Stress
a nonspecific response of the body to any demand
signs and symptoms of stress
physical
cognitive
emotional
behavioral
Define Fatigue
state of feeling tired, wary or sleepy
Types of Fatigue
Acute - inattention, errors in timing, neglect secondary tasks - resolved one night of rest
Chronic - insomnia, depressed mood, irritability - extended amount of acute fatigue
Motivational Exhaustion - chronic fatigue untreated for long time individual eventually shuts down
Define Spatial Disorientation
pilots erroneous perception of position, motion, or attitude in relation to the gravitational vertical and the Earth’s surface
Types of SD
Type 1 - unrecognized
Type 2 - recognized
Type 3 - incapacitating
Type 1 most dangerous
Orientation Maintenance of SD
Visual - most reliable / deceiving

- otoliths - linear acceleration
- semicircular canals - angular acceleration
