MECHANISMS: nucleophilic addition-elimination Flashcards
1
Q
Give the 4 nucleophilic addition-elimination mechanisms
A
nucleophiles: water, alcohol, ammonia (nh3), amines (eg ch3nh2)
2
Q
How can nucleophiles attack acyl chloride?
A
delta positive carbon bc the oxygen and the chlorine are very ELECTRONEGATIVE
3
Q
How to make aspirin and why use the acid anhydride instead of acyl chloride?
A
ethanoic anhydride + salicylic acid –> aspirin + ethanoic acid
use ethanoic anhydride instead of ethanoyl chloride because:
- less corrosive
- cheaper
- doesnt produce toxic HCl gas like ethanoyl chloride does
