Q

How to make aspirin and why use the acid anhydride instead of acyl chloride?

A

ethanoic anhydride + salicylic acid –> aspirin + ethanoic acid

use ethanoic anhydride instead of ethanoyl chloride because:
- less corrosive
- cheaper
- doesnt produce toxic HCl gas like ethanoyl chloride does
